INSIDE THE MIND OF AN ARTIST: Krista Harris

Lauren Mantecon interviews Krista Harris

I have had a lifelong love affair within the magic of art-making. There is absolutely no one-size-fits-all to how artists approach processes and content.

Over the years, I have always been a bit stupefied when I've gotten the occasional remark, "Oh my God, you're an artist? My uncle is an artist, too. I should put the two of you in touch. You will have so much in common!”

Ummm... okay. Maybe, maybe not.

I have tremendous respect for not only the varied ways to approach process, but for the minds of others that embark on any kind of creative production with authenticity.

With that sense of spirit in mind, I have set out to create a series of interviews I am calling, "Inside the Mind of an Artist." These are interviews that explore the what, why and how of creative ideas and how that eventually translates into a tangible dialogue of expression.

This month I present you with the contemporary painter, Krista Harris, as we discuss why artists should never worry about failing, and more importantly, that we keep pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones.

In Krista's words,

"Keep working, keep going while trying to know yourself better and questioning everything you do, and why you do it. Be careful who you listen to, who you illicit- even your own voice. Put a lot of time in your studio. Do the work. Do the work. Do the work."

We also discuss the contemporary works of other prolific artists: Enrique Martinez Celaya, Amy Sillman and Adrian Ghenie, and why they've all been an influence on Krista's abstract work.

Pull up a seat and take a listen as we dive deeper in this 58-minute video.

Thanks for reading (& watching!)
