The Golden Thread / Weaver of Magic

I have a favorite poet, Mark Nepo.

I turn to his writings whenever I feel disconnected from my wellspring of Source.

Nepo brings me back to the core of what is essential in the work I do.

He reminds me that the uncovering of self-the soul work is a creative act of self-devotion.

We can all use a little backup, a go-to when we feel like a fish out of water floundering in overwhelm or resistance, looking for answers outside ourselves. You might know exactly what I mean. It’s when we start comparing and contrasting the brilliancy of others as a yardstick to our own radiating life force.

to use a visual metaphor, It Is my golden thread.

I like metaphors, and gold represents a color of wisdom and a weaver of magic.

I keep a thin piece of this colored thread on my altar. It’s there as a small physical reminder that when mundane tasks and mindless distractions have caused me to lose my way, I can reach again.

The golden thread is my portal back, my umbilical cord into the magical ring of the creative process.

The nectar of sweet life.

I invite you! to practice using this metaphor by visualizing, with your mind’s eye, a golden thread billowing down from the cosmos. It makes its way through the top of your head, your throat, your heart, and then anchors through the belly, and the base of the spine. Warm liquid light, the hue of amber honey emanates through your pores, out your hands, and through your fingers.

Mark Nepo brings this home so eloquently when he says:

“Metaphors make visible the incandescent filaments of being that draw us into the world. Metaphors reveal the connections between things. The poet's job- and the awakened soul’s work- is to reveal, inhabit and sustain those connections.”

Do you need support when you’re feeling overwhelmed or disconnected?

When we are deep in our process, we may come up against resistance. It can sneak upon us and we may lose sight of our ‘golden thread.’ Here is an 8-minute meditation we can return to again and again when we find ourselves in this internal space to support us in going with the flow of our resistance.

Please enjoy!

And, let us know your experience by leaving a comment below. . How do you deal with resistance and feelings of being overwhelmed? Did you try the meditation?

We would love to hear from you.
